They came from the Warp II

Howdy,

Things have been a bit slow lately, caused by a number of factors eating into hobby time. What with work, life and another mad idea I've had there hasn't been a lot of love for the plastic.

Finished Warp Talons
On Sunday the squad of Warp Talons was completed. I must admit I hadn't expected to enjoy painting something so detailed. On went the audio-book and hours flew.

Base Coats and a messy work desk
Basic base coats were applied to the two remaining members of the squad. I attempted when assembling them to keep them as similar to the poses used in the GW literature (and on the box)

Washed and still soggy
Then the same paint scheme that had been used on the previous three was employed to finish the spiky buggers off. Careful observers will have noted the Night Lord shoulder pads that were purchased from FW. Its the first time I've really tried to paint the fine cast resin (despite having several guys waiting to be painted!) and found the coverage OK once the release agent had been washed off.

Spiked Fury

These guys then met up with their battle brothers for a group shot. Ive enjoyed the trip into the warp immensely. I think I'll have to purchase some more Chaos Marines to experiment with.

Talons of Death
I might get back to some Wolves before the next post!

They came from the Warp !

Howdy,

So in the last post I was a bit lost in a blizzard of Wolves. I needed something else to re-ignite the painting fire, so I did what any painter worth their salt would do. I sold my soul to Chaos!

At the back end of last year I bought some Chaos Warp Talons / Raptors along with the Dark Angels I've previously painted. Its taken me this long to get around to painting them.

I think its a good thing that I've waited as I really enjoyed the challenge of painting them. Before I began painting them I did a bit of background research of the Warp Talons. I noted that most gamers find them a bit useless, but as I'm not a gamer I'm not too bothered about that. The background mentioned that they had ornate power armour and could stalk their prey through the veil of reality, so I figured that they really needed to be Night Lords. Here is the result.

Got Claws!
I used the paint scheme as described in WD Oct '12 using Kantor Blue as a base coat. Then a wash with Nuln oil, followed by a coat of Kantor Blue. Then Alaitoc blue and Lothern Blue to highlight.

A view from all sides

Once I had finished off this guy, I caught the bug and batch painted another two of the squad.

Squad Champion

Those claws would hurt

I used some of the edge highlighting techniques I've been polishing and a good solid yellow technique on the butchered marine helmet.

The Talons were painted with a base coat of Memphiston Red then washed with Devlan Mud (an old pot). Final feathered highlights were with Troll Slayer Orange and Flash Gitz Yellow.

I also liked the sound of the Night Lords having skulls on their helms. So that the last thing you would see is a skull and a fury of Talons. That would introduce the fear factor in any opponent!

The champion is painted with a very pale pallor, having been a child of a world that was held in darkness.

Out of the Warp!
Finally here are the three in action, once I've got the other two completed I'll pop a completed squad post up.

Till next time.

Dark Angels Veteran Squad Update

Howdy,

I managed to complete the shoulder pads for the Dark Angels Veterans on Sunday. Not a vast amount of painting but it finished them off
The first three

The rest of the Squad
I was really taken with the vibrant highlighting and that started my mind thinking that all of my models from before I started using this technique would benefit from a little edge TLC. So I promptly went and assembled one of my Christmas 'wish list' gifts! A Grey Knights squad was assembled before it was time to watch Sherlock.

The whole idea of edge highlighting some of my existing models really took hold once I messed around   with this Chaos guy. I think he was from the old Hero Quest game.

Grrrrrrrrrrr!
The next project on the list is to finish off the Blood Claw squad that I started back in 1993. Im looking forward to completing them and seeing the results!

Oh I've also added a few more bits to the blog and adjusted the widths of columns so it doesn't look so clunky!

Be back soon.

Lazy Sunday Afternoons

Hey,

So it's been a few weeks since the first post and I've finally got around to a second post.

A bit more background; I have been painting for the second time around since March 2012 and after finding a host of my old miniatures and paints began to trawl the internet to find out what was new.
I had a host of Space Wolves and some random marines that had made it out of storage so i began to try  to develop a style of painting i could call my own. One thing that immediately made a massive difference was the availability of washes. I'll follow up on more of the past in later posts.

Some of the things that have caught my eye has been the Death Guard colour scheme and a lot of the Horus Heresy stuff that is happening at the moment. So much so that i decided to try to paint
some Chaos Space Marines in the paint style.

Death Guard Chaos Space Marines

Here are the finished marines, I had fun trying some new techniques hopefully they look like servants of Nurgle.

As I mentioned i really like the colour scheme so I'm thinking that my new Forgeworld Apothecaries would look good in that style and I may have been influenced by this post

On another exciting note I had this arrive this week:
Citadel Rogue Trader Space Marine Tech Techmarine Wrench C.1988

I'm now contemplating the colour scheme to paint him, along with a host of other stuff on the 'to do' list. Instead of painting though, I'm having a lazy Sunday afternoon!
